Illustration
Illustration is a critical element of many student projects. Rather than force a distinct style, I encourage students to develop their own visual aesthetic and to integrate either hand-drawn or digital illustration into projects where appropriate.
A Million Little Pieces - Hand-illustrated triptych capturing passages from the book. (sophomore level)
Canine Royale - Charity event illustrations for conceptual mash-up of Casino Royale and the “dogs playing poker” painting. ADDY Awards: KC Gold + Best of Show; District 9 Gold, National Silver; AIGA KC A12 Awards Student Juror’s Choice. (junior level)
Michi - Paper toy monster depicting a frustrated Walmart cashier with an overdeveloped right arm from scanning items. Project included a guest lecture and critique from paper craft artist Matt Hawkins. (sophomore level)
Pinwheel of Death - Paper toy monster that haunts many a designer’s dreams. Project included a guest lecture and critique from paper craft artist Matt Hawkins. (sophomore level)
